1858 Steubenville & Indiana Railroad Stock Certificate. Nice early midwestern railroad scripophily document with vignette of very early steam locomotive and passenger cars. The Steubenville and Indiana Railroad was chartered by the State of Ohio and under its charter built the road from Steubenville to Newark, 117 miles, and the Cadiz Branch in Harrison county, 7 1/2 miles in length, The company subsequently purchased the undivided half of the Central Ohio Railroad between Newark and Columbus, 33 miles, thus giving the company with the Steubenville bridge and the two roads from there to Pittsburgh a direct line from Pittsburgh, Pa., to Columbus, Ohio, a distance of 150 miles. This antique stock certificate is in VF condition with glue stain on left border (not as pronounced as shown in scan).
