1869 State of South Carolina $1000 Bond Certificate signed by Robert Scott. One of several post Civil War reconstruction Southern state bonds. Very attractive scripophily document with four high quality vignettes: one of George Washington, the second of a black man picking cotton, the third of a sailing ship escorted by steam powered tugboat, and the fourth a revolutionary patriot with allegorical justice. Robert Scott was a Union officer who served two terms as governor of Soth Carolina after the Cicil War. The state debt tripled during Governor Scott's years in office. VF+ condition no coupons.
