1876 Pullman Southern Car Bond Certificate signed twice (once on front, once on back) by George Pullman. Beautiful $500 scripophily document with vignette of a standing female Liberty. George Pullman (1831-1897) was an industrialist and inventor of the Pullman railroad sleeping car. His first Pullman car, the "Pioneer," appeared in 1865. It contained folding upper berths and seat cushions that could be extended to make lower berths. Guided by Pullmans entrepreneurial instincts, his Chicago industrial complex grew to become the greatest railroad car construction company in the world. This antique bond certificate is in VF+ condition, with both signatures affected slightly by punch cancels.
