Nifty unissued scripophily document with vignette of company's typesetting machine and portraits of the founders, Timothy and Henry Alden. In 1857 Timothy Alden of New York was granted a patent for a typesetting machine. This was the first successful typesetting machine. The type was arranged in cells around the circumference of a horizontal wheel. As the wheel revolved, several receivers also started to rotate. The desired type was picked up and dropped in proper order in a line. This antique stock certificate is in EF condition.
